In June 2014, the team of Phil Billingham, Shannon Currie, Duncan Mackenzie and Gerry Mulligan intend to regain the record for the UK. And a truly UK endeavour it is, with an Irishman, a Scotsman, a Welshman and a … well, Zimbabwean / South African of English ancestry who lives in Essex, but close!
This is a carefully planned trip, and the distance can be covered safely, at legal speeds. It will take careful planning and attention, but it is doable.
The intention is to raise funds for a couple of charities. These are
With very little real publicity, the 2001 trip raised almost £3 000 for Children in Need. We would expect that this trip should raise significantly more than that. Our target is over £18 000.
The dates of the trip are the 19th to the 23rd June, with the run taking place on the 22nd June, completing the trip over Sunday and Monday.
All the drivers are experienced drivers, used to long trips in Europe, and have in excess of 100 years safe driving experience between them.
As you can see, the emphasis is on planning and safety, but with a clear aim to regain the record for the UK, and raise significant sums for a very worthwhile Charities
No money raised will be spent on expenses. The participants will pay all costs themselves.
